BARNATANYA 2006, Syrah, Barnatanya vineyard

The initial nuances of chocolate, earth and smoke soon give way to deep red and purple fruits in the glass. On the palate, this wine is rich and packed with flavor, reminescent of a large bowl of ripe red fruit; the core is built on creamy, smooth tannins and exciting acidity which keep it focused. I must confess that I am biased here: I consider this wine to be one of my favorite reds in the last ten years. It has so far served very well at many a meal of beef, duck, and pheasant, as well as with plates of perfectly aged hard cheeses. What else can we say? Cheers!
